Journal Online: Groundbreaking Set For New CEA Facility

"A groundbreaking date has finally been set on a new fixed base operator facility at Chicago Executive Airport near Prospect Hts.
Hawthorne Global Aviation Services plans to break ground kicking off construction of its new 40,000 sq. ft. hangar and terminal on Tuesday, May 21 at 11 a.m. The facility, in the planning stages for the last few years, will rise soon at the northwest corner of Palatine Frontage Road and Milwaukee Avenue on the Prospect Hts. side of the airport. Chicago Executive (CEA) is jointly owned and operated by Prospect Hts. and the village of Wheeling.
Hawthorne will be CEA’s third fixed base operator housing and maintaining privately owned airplanes that take off and land at the airport. Fixed base operators also handle de-icing and fueling of aircrafts.
According to Hawthorne consultant David Annin, 30,000 sq. ft. in the new facility would be dedicated to hangar space with the remaining 10,000 for offices and a terminal including pilot and passenger lounges.
Hawthorne is headquartered in Charleston, SC, and also maintains fixed base operations in New Orleans and Long Island, NY. Just this week, the company announced its purchase of development rights for the new CEA facility from Sovereign Development Group.
“The acquisition of the development rights for a new FBO at Chicago Executive Airport establishes our presence in Chicago, a vibrant top three general aviation market. With this planned FBO, it broadens our geographic footprint of FBOs throughout the U.S. to now include the Midwest,” said Steven Levesque, president and CEO of Hawthorne."
Annin said Hawthorne hopes to complete construction at CEA by early 2014.
